I hope no one was planning to sleep tonight, because this robotic sea snake is guaranteed to haunt your dreams:
The robot is part of a collaboration between Eelume, Kongsberg Maritime, and Statoil, and is intended to inspect underwater gear. Its slinky structure will allow it to get into smaller spaces and perform “light maintenance,” such as cleaning equipment and adjusting valves. As a result, it will be able to “reduce the use of large and expensive vessels,” rendering the maintenance of structures like oil rigs and offshore wind farms more efficient and cost-effective.
That being said, it’s a creepy thing that I hate. I’m sure it will be a very useful robot that will help people, but its eerily realistic movements aren’t doing it any favors, and the demonic lights on its head make it look like Voldemort.
